Enhanced Provision for Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs
The Enhanced Mainstream School at Grove Road offers an Outreach Service to 40 cluster schools in the Harrogate area and stretching as far north-west as Pateley Bridge. Outreach work usually takes the form of advice and support for staff and sometimes includes teaching provision for children in their ‘home’ school. Meanwhile, advice and support for parents / carers is available through the EMS Parent Support Advisor. This is the ‘Core Purpose’ of the EMS – to increase the capacity of local schools to include children who exhibit SEMH needs.
In addition, the EMS is required to provide in-reach teaching provision for children who are permanently excluded from school, who move into the Local Authority and are hard to place or who have severe / complex needs which require additional provision pending their re-integration to school. Part-time temporary in-reach teaching provision can be made available for children with severe and / or complex needs where it is agreed by the ‘home’ school, the parents / carers and the EMS Teacher in Charge.
At the same time, the EMS provides teaching provision for children unable to attend school due to a medical condition diagnosed by a medical officer and where a medical note is provided.
Referrals for support are normally submitted following a consultation with the Teacher in Charge, Christine Barker:
